ജോ ബ്ലിഘ്റ്റ് sketches

I’ve been enjoying the New Year and Christmas break here in Hobart. I have been spending some time down at the Taste festival on the Hobart waterfront. There have been some great street performers working around the festival and we have had great weather. So I have been drawing in the shade of a tree watching people play music and juggle.
I have also been lucky enough to go on a quick boat ride around Tasman Island. I took heaps of photos and these have helped me with my development of ‘Jo Blight’ illustrations. I had been struggling with some of the visual environment images for the start of the book. The boat ride convinced me that I should start the story above water (on the water’s edge). The cliffs, seaweed and rocks around Tasman Island will become the setting for the story. This should also assist when the story turns dark and goes underwater as it will help heighten the oppressive feeling the story needs.
